USVEX — Ultrasonic vocalization events extractorAnimals such as dolphins and rodents use ultrasonic vocalizations for communication and socialization. Such vocalizations represent an important information on their emotional condition and development stage. Valuable data is hidden in types of vocalization, as well as in the distribution of the vocalization events over time. USVEX is a software tool that analyzes audio recordings and extracts ultrasonic vocalization events. The tool implements proprietary adaptive algorithm that detects and extracts ultrasonic events in conditions with changing noise level. The tool calculates and prints out statistics collected over pre-recorded audio including number of events, events rate per predefined time interval, type of event and other auxiliary data. The tool also helps in subjective assessments by producing human hearable audio derived (by frequency domain shifting and compression) from the recorded ultra-sonic sounds. USVEX highlights:
- unlimited sampling rate; typical sampling rate for rodents: 192 Khz (up to 96 Khz sound frequency)
- fast adaptation to changing noises
- silent, batch operation
